Harwood Union High School’s wrestlers raised more than $10,000 for new mats for their home meets. Team members sold over 350 raffle tickets for prizes donated by 15 area businesses, and the team also received 31 cash donations.
The new mats cost about $12,000; the remainder of the money came from Harwood’s annual Calcutta fundraiser. Along with the mats, the team bought an interlocking system that eliminates the need to tape the mats down. The mats also have built-in antimicrobial protection that will keep them from staining, mildew and deterioration.
Harwood wrestling’s next home meet is Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.
