The fact that we have to vote again for the municipal building complex that was supported by a margin of nearly 200 votes in March is frustrating, but has sadly become the way politics work in our community.
The Select Board listened to the voters last June. They completely redesigned the municipal building complex with the help of a committee of citizens representing all facets of Waterbury. They sent out a survey, listened to input, moved the project to municipal property that is out of the floodplain, took the police out of the mix and brought the bond amount under $3 million. We have large corporations, local businesspeople and state government all investing in our community. Shouldn’t we make an investment too?
I urge all of you who supported this project in March, and all of you who didn’t think your vote mattered, to get out and vote to oppose this rescission and support the municipal building complex. Part of what makes Waterbury a great community is the fact that we, for the most part, are reasonable people. Let’s move forward and invest in our community.
