To the Editor:
Thank you to the many “good cookies” who made the second annual Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale a huge success.
We would especially like to thank Kate Flaherty and Cat Davis, Crossett Brook Middle School students, for making Cookies for Kids Cancer part of their Change the World project and making this event about kids helping kids.
With well over a dozen bakers in the community, including Waterbury’s Senior Center, we were able to sell many delicious cookies while raising awareness about the lack of funding for childhood cancer treatments and cures for this leading killer, by disease, of children.
Thank you to Brave Coffee for donating coffee and to BGB Salon, KC Bagels, the Prohibition Pig and Ice Cream Bob’s for hosting donation jars. We appreciate Crossett Brook staff for their enthusiastic support of this event and both Crossett Brook and Harwood Middle School coaches and players for supporting this event while playing with heart, on and off the field.
All totaled, we raised over $800 that will be matched by OXO (the housewares company), with 100 percent going toward funding future clinical trials that will help change the lives of kids. Thank you for baking-a-difference with us.
