One of things I find most enjoyable about community politics is the opportunity for civil discourse.
Civics 101 teaches us not to make the debate about the debate, but rather to form the conversation around a reasonable argument to justify one’s opinion. An opinion that makes the case that ends in solutions that is for the greater good.
Through what seemed, some days, like endless meetings and discussions, a failed bond vote in June 2013 and then more meetings, surveys and public input, the leadership in Waterbury scrutinized and unanimously endorsed for the greater good, the proposed Municipal Complex at 28 North Main Street that we approved on Town Meeting Day.
This was civil discourse that sought opinions and corporately formed a solution to many needs. We have before us once again the opportunity to carry this momentum forward, to take advantage of the Community Development Block Grant for $1 million that is solely available to us until the end of June and to support a solution that provides for the needs of the municipality, library and Waterbury Historical Society for many decades to come.
As we look forward to a conclusion to the rescission request, let us all remember that our opinions only matter if we vote.
Sincerely,
Chris Palermo
