Hundreds of people crowded Waterbury village and Farr’s Field for the town’s annual Not Quite Independence Day celebration, spiced up this year with a major barbecue competition.
Country singer Jamie Lee Thurston headlined the weekend’s musical acts, and topnotch fireworks capped Saturday night’s activities.
Sunday was kind of a washout, with periodic heavy rains, but Saturday was stellar and big crowds lingered in town through the day and night.
Main Street was jammed for the NQID parade and for the Green Mountain Mile that preceded it. The mile-long run involves parents and kids and a lot of high-fiving with friends and neighbors who line the route.
The Waterbury Rotary Club took the lead in organizing the weekend.
