Police are hunting for two men accused of assaulting and trying to rob a Northfield man at the northbound rest area along Interstate 89 in Waterbury.

Bryon Stueber, 25, told Vermont State Police he had parked at the rest area at about 5 o’clock Saturday morning and went to sleep in his car.

He said a man woke him up and asked for help changing a tire. As he approached the man’s car, he alleged that two men jumped him, demanded his wallet and money, slugged him in the head, and stabbed him several times in the chest with a small kitchen knife.

After the assault, the two men drove away, Stueber said he was taken to Central Vermont Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Stueber provided a description of the two men. The first is white, about 5-foot 9, slender, with a scruffy dark-colored beard and hair, wearing a dark blue T-shirt and jeans. The other is white, about 6 feet, slender, dark buzz-cut hair, wearing a gray T-shirt and jeans.

They were in a small, dark-green four-door sedan with Vermont license plates.

Anybody with information can contact Trooper Darryl Cremo at 802-229-9191 or Vermont Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 529-9998.
