Monday, May 26, is the official observance of Memorial Day, and all state and municipal offices, schools, banks and regional U.S. post offices will be closed that day.

Memorial Day honors men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday has been celebrated in various incarnations since the 1860s, and is now officially observed on the last Monday in May.

The Waterbury Historical Society and American Legion Post 59 are sponsoring a remembrance service and rededication of the Loomis Hill Cemetery on Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m. in Waterbury, rain or shine.
