Senegal, Macedonia officials visit town

Emergency officials from Senegal and Macedonia were in Waterbury last week, visiting the Vermont Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

More than a dozen representatives from the military and emergency response agencies from the two countries toured the Vermont emergency operations center and got a close look at one of the state’s hazardous-materials response trucks.

Staff members from the Vermont Department of Public Safety used the tours to illustrate how Vermont responds to and recovers from disasters.

Keith Flynn, Vermont’s public safety commissioner, and Joe Flynn, director of the division of emergency management and homeland security, visited Macedonia last October to learn about response in that country.

“We value the partnership we have with both of your countries and the Vermont National Guard,” Keith Flynn told the group. “We all learn a lot from each other through our exchange, and our constituents are the beneficiaries of that cooperation.”
