The TD Charitable Foundation, an arm of TD Bank, has donated $5,000 to Central Vermont Adult Basic Education for its functional literacy program, which teaches basic reading, writing and math skills to area adults and teens.
The organization serves local residents through its Morrisville and Waterbury learning centers.
Some residents in the program are building academic proficiency to get a job, enroll in a training program, or become ready for college.
Others are raising their literacy levels to become ready to enroll in a high school credentialing program.
The program also offers financial literacy instruction to help students with budgeting, banking, paying bills, and other monetary tasks.
The educational programs are free to adults — age 16 through senior citizens — in Washington, Orange and Lamoille counties. Services include basic literacy education, GED and high school diploma programs, college and career readiness, and English language learning.
“Initiatives such as the functional literacy program help to empower community members with academic and financial knowledge that will last a lifetime,” said Phil Daniels, market president at TD Bank. “We are pleased to partner with an organization that has such a positive impact in the community.”
