Antique store opens in Montpelier

Aly McHugh, owner of No. 9 Boutique on Main Street in Montpelier, has turned the large, airy space in the back of her clothing store into an antique shop, The Alley.

She and five consignor dealers — Jill Pralle, Gary Shute, Marieka Larrabee, Lawreen Conley and Jody Dwire — are filling it with furniture, lamps, framed art, household items, architectural salvage pieces and home décor.

“We felt that Montpelier really could use another antique shop, especially one that sells furniture as well as with smaller items,” McHugh said. “Each dealer brings their own curated pieces and sense of style into the shop, which melds together into an eclectic, yet cohesive, array of items – hopefully something for everyone!”

She and her dealers hope to turn Montpelier into more of an antiques destination. “Now we’ve got Antiques on Main and The Alley, which we hope will draw more antiquers into town,” she said. “

The Alley is at 75 Main St., Montpelier, behind No. 9 Boutique and next door to Bear Pond Books. The shop can be reached through the front door of No. 9 or through the back door, which faces the parking lot behind the store. Information: thealleyvt@gmail.com or 229-0019.
