Three people in the Waterbury-Duxbury and Harwood Union school districts have won state honors.
• Stefanie Weigand was honored as Outstanding New Music Educator at the fall conference of the Vermont Music Educators Association and American Choral Director Association. The award is given to one Vermont music educator per year, nominated by colleagues and chosen by the Vermont association’s board. Recipients must be in their first five years of service and have a significant impact in the field of music education and in the work of their students.
Weigand is in her third year at Harwood, where she teaches chorus to grades seven through 12, directs music for the high school theater group, conducts the I Cantori honors choir, and directs the middle school musical. Outside of school, she is an active performer and advocate for music education. She is on the board of the Vermont chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, and is chair of high school repertoire and standards. She is dean of students for the New England Music Festival.
• Erika Dolan, director of food services for the Waterbury-Duxbury School District, was appointed president of the Vermont School Nutrition Association, an organization dedicated to bringing healthy food to children and their education.
• Nan Hathaway, art teacher at Crossett Brook Middle School, was honored as Vermont Arts Teacher of the Year, and also acknowledged as a UVM Outstanding Teacher.
