Alaina Shires, daughter of Catherine and Stephen Shires of Waterbury Center, was recognized for academic excellence at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., as the academic year concluded. Shires, a senior, is a member of the Hartwick College Honor Society; she is majoring in philosophy and political science.

Eleven local students received associate’s degrees June 6 from the Community College of Vermont. The ceremonies were held at Norwich University in Northfield.

Moretown: John Costello, Courtney Nelson, Harley Pecor, Creighton Vogt.

Waitsfield: Melanie Lucas.

Waterbury: Margaret Hayes and Heather Weaver.

Waterbury Center: Liza Commo, Heather Donley, Cholena Lotspeich, Jessica Richardson.

Eight local students earned academic honors for the spring semester at the Community College of Vermont.

Named to the president’s list: Katlin Myrto and Simone Washington, both of Waitsfield.

Named to the dean’s list were Courtney Nelson of Moretown; Sydney Dollmeyer, Abby Miles and Leah Vanvoorhis Waterbury; and Indigo Sutton-Yuzna and Jasmyn Nichols of Waterbury Center.
