Thatcher Brook Primary School first-grader and Odyssey of the Mind volunteer Anna Brundage presents Michael Bove with his prize money from the Waterbury Ice Out 50/50 raffle last week.

Bove had the winning ticket to guess when the ice would melt on the Waterbury pool. He guessed 6 p.m. on April 14, and the ice actually melted enough at 7:10 p.m. to tip the wooden pallet on the ice and send the 50-pound brick sitting on it to the bottom of the pool.

The event was a fundraiser for the Thatcher Brook and Crossett Brook Middle School Odyssey of the Mind teams traveling to the OM World Finals competition at Iowa State University in May. The raffle sold more than 400 tickets, and Bove split $700 with the program.
