“Seussical (The Musical!)” will be presented April 9-11 at Harwood Union High School.
The show, which won a Tony Award for the songwriting team Ahrens & Flaherty, brings Dr. Seuss stories to life in a family-friendly, high-energy production.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 9-11, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 11, at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes before curtain; $10 adults, $5 students.
The Cat in the Hat (played by sophomore Matt Skelly) tells the story of Horton the Elephant (Ben Burr), an imaginative child named Jojo (Jordan Kulis), Gertrude McFuzz (Bridget Nagdeman), lazy Mayzie (Nina Sklar), the Wikershams (Emma Jean, Colin Holter, Harrison Russell), Sour Kangaroo (Phoebe Pacheco), Mr. & Mrs. Mayor of Whoville (Cormac Stevens, Merrill Woodruff), the Grinch (Asa Anderson), and many of other Seuss characters.
The show is directed by Scott Weigand; music director is Stefanie Weigand; choreography is by Amia Cervantes and tech direction by Kevin Kelly. It features original set design by Harwood senior Kianna Haskins that capture the color and vibrance of Dr. Seuss illustrations.
The pit orchestra, led by band director Chris Rivers, features both student and professional musicians; a “meet the band” presentation is planned before the Saturday matinee and young audience members are invited on stage after the show to meet the cast and see the set.
