Girls place first, boys third at Essex Invitational
At the Essex Invitational on Sept. 6 the following CVU runners placed in the top 10. Girls: 2. Sophia Gorman, 6. Carly Neeld, 10. Emma Putre, Boys: 4. Tyler Marshall, 10. Elliot Eastman.
Redhawks down Rebels
Five Redhawks scored five goals and beat South Burlington 5-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Soccer players Naomi Burhans, Catherine Cazayoux, Sierra Morton (assist), Audrey Allegretta, and Lindsay Kimball contributed a goal apiece. Vina Nyguyen added two assists. Goalkeepers Michaela Flore and Maddie Turneau combined for two saves.
Boys soccer team improves to 3-1
Last Tuesday, CVU boys soccer team beat Burlington 2-0 at home. Richard Baccei and Cooper O’Connell each scored a goal in the first half to secure the shutout. Will Yakibik added a helper, while Oscar Kelly and Grant Kelley combined for four saves. Three days later CVU routed Middlebury 4-0 thanks to Max Brown, who scored two goals and had an assist. Baccei also tallied, as did Josh Prue.
Field hockey team stays perfect
Champlain Valley shutout Burlington 4-0 in high school field hockey action Wednesday, Sept. 10. Sarah Machavern and Anna Georgsdottier scored in the first half while Lily Schmoker (assist) and Emily Winget scored in the second half. Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made four saves. Two days later Champlain Valley and Essex ended their field hockey match in a scoreless tie. Pashby-Rockwood made eight of 10 saves in the second half.
