CVU boys hoops team loses two to begin season

Essex defeated Champlain Valley (CVU) in high school boys basketball season opener 64-52 on Friday, Dec. 5 in Essex. CVU’s Chris Reiss had 26 points to lead CVU and Nick Lynn added 10 points. On Monday, Dec. 8 the Redhawks fared no better. BFA St. Albans defeated CVU 69-55. CVU’s Reiss contributed 15 points, Storey Walker scored 11, and Jed Morris grabbed 10 in the loss.

CVU hockey team undefeated over weekend

Champlain Valley’s Kaleb Godbout scored in overtime to grab a 2-1 win over Loyola (Que.) on Friday night, Dec. 5 in a non-league contest at Cairns arena in South Burlington. Joe Parento scored and had an assist while Cam Rivard had two assists during the season opener. On Saturday the team skated to a scoreless draw with Lower Canada thanks to Greg Talbert’s 12 saves in net.

CVU wrestlers take fourth in early bird tournament

Jarett Legg finished third with Troy Bergeron and Kienan Kittredge runners up in their respective weight classes in the Sandy Murry Earlybird Tournament at St. Johnsbury Academy on Saturday, Dec. 6. Out of 18 teams the Redhawks finished fourth.

Girls basketball team continues streak

The Champlain Valley Union girls basketball team extended its consecutive win streak by pummeling Colchester 74-17 in the season opener at the Spaulding Tournament on Friday, Dec. 5. CVU’s leading scorer was Sadie Otley with 21 points, Laurel Jaunich added 15 points and nine rebounds, and Annabella Pugliese contributed 10 points. On Monday, Otley and Jaunich grabbed 14 points each to lead CVU over South Burlington 44-29 to conclude the Spaulding Tournament.
