The Charlotte Fire Department was called to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer tanker truck and a Kia Sedona at Vermont Route 7 and State Park Road in Charlotte on Dec. 1.
The collision occurred when the tractor trailer was traveling north bound on Route 7 as it approached the intersection of State Park Road, police said. The Kia was traveling west on State Park Road approaching Route 7.
Nancy Smith, 54, of Charlotte failed to stop her Kia prior to entering the intersection, police said.
The operator of the Peterbuilt tractor trailer, Curtis Cyr, 36, of Bristol attempted to avoid the collision by turning sharply to the left, however the truck struck the front end of the Kia causing it to slide off the east side of the road way, police said.
The tractor trailer began to jack knife and slid off the west side of the roadway coming to rest approximately 50 feet off of Route 7, after missing a residence by 10 feet, police said. The fuel oil tank attached to the tractor trailer was empty, police said.
Smith suffered a dislocated shoulder and a fractured knee. Cyr was not injured.
Route 7 was closed for three hours while crews worked the scene and tow companies worked to get the tractor trailer pulled back onto the roadway. Assisting the State Police was Charlotte Fire and Rescue, Shelburne Fire and Rescue The collision is still under investigation, and impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash, police said.
