The Charlotte Shelburne Hinesburg Rotary on Nov. 14 honored its members who are veterans, along with local veterans who helped create the Veterans Monument in Shelburne. Rotarian Colleen Haag chronicled the research and outreach that brought the monument project to reality, Rotarian Sam Feitelberg, a leader of the monument project, introduced the veterans and spoke of the importance of the monument, both to those who fought for their country and to their children, grandchildren, relatives, and others who learn from the site and its inscribed bricks. Stephanie Wobby, a 27-year-old veteran of service in Iraq, Afghanistan and with the United Nations, now a University of Vermont student in biochemistry, added her 21st-century perspective to military service. The veterans pictured left to right are: Phil Denu, Susan Grimes; Leonard Roberge, a 104-year-old veteran of the Korean War; Bud Ockert, Stephanie Wobby, Don Condon, Bill Deming, Fritz Horton, Jim Donaldson, Paul Goodrich, Sam Feitelberg, John Hammer and Howard Seaver.
