A Twelfth Night Celebration, performed by the Essex Children’s Choir on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 6:30pm, will be held at the Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Michael’s College in Colchester. Twelfth Night Celebration has been the Choir’s gift to the community since 1987. This joyful presentation of music brings to a close the traditional celebration of Christmas; dancers leap, pipers pipe, instruments sing, and voices ring in a unique collaboration of artistry, beauty, and joy.
Under the artistic direction of Constance J. Price and accompanist Karen Reed, the choir invites community members to experience the power of music through song accompanied by dance and instruments. Through the writings of J. S. Bach, Michael Praetorius, Benjamin Britten, Adolphe Adam, John Rutter, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the power of music will lift words off the printed page to the highest plateau of communication.
Joining the choir and alumni are Heidi Soons, harp; Wayne Hobbs, tenor; Susan Summerfield, organ; Full Circle, recorder consort; Wheeler Trombone Quartet, and the Adirondack Dance Ensemble under the artistic direction of Kathy Koester. Twelfth Night Celebration closes with the audience joining musicians to dance in a joyful performance of Lord of the Dance, a tradition since the first Twelfth Night in 1987.
Donations will be received at the end of the concert. In the event of incumbent weather, Twelfth Night will be presented on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4:30pm. For additional info, call (802) 863-9161 or visit www.essexchildrenschoirofvermont.org.
