This year’s fall foliage contest brought out, far and away, some of the most talented photographers in our 15 years of holding the competition.

Crisp colors, breathtaking and dramatic views and well-composed shots flooded the pool of contenders, making it truly difficult to award just three prizes.

We received more than 100 photos from over four dozen photographers, but we had to pick one, and “The One” was Brita Down’s “October Hike,” a stunning shot of Stowe Pinnacle.

In a photo finish, so to speak, second-place went to Ryan White’s “A River Runs Through It,” Colchester.

Third goes to Drew Bressel of Waterville, a one-time intern at the Stowe Reporter, with “Foggy Kelly River.”

Prizes come in the form of gift cards for $200, $100 and $50.

For your viewing pleasure, we also offer Daniel Krieger’s “October Sunrise,” Lime Kiln Road, South Burlington; “Journey,” Belvidere Center, by Frank Grenon; and Barbara Fitch’s “Country Road,” Stowe.

The top 12 entries, judged by photographer Gordon Miller and a panel of newspaper staffers, can be viewed here.
