Stowe Land Trust is celebrating 27 years of community-based land conservation on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of Eric and Robin Gershman which is adjacent to Cady Hill Forest, the land trust’s most recently conserved property.
The afternoon will begin with a pie and ice cream social. The land trust will elect new directors, honor those stepping off the board, and give a brief financial presentation. Members of the land trust will also be asked to approve an amended version of the bylaws, which are available online, concerning articles governing the general operation of the organization. Paul Costello, executive director of the Vermont Council on Rural Development, will speak on the future of Vermont’s working landscape.
After the meeting, there will be a choice of five outings exploring Cady Hill Forest and Strawberry Hill Farm: a forest food forage to identify wild edible mushrooms; a walk through Cady Hill Forest to learn the basics of timber management relating to songbird habitats; a family-friendly nature exploration with the land trust’s summer naturalist, Krista Battles; a walk to learn about non-timber forest products that grow in the woods; and a bike tour of Cady Hill Forest.
The celebration will be held under a tent, and the outings are all outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring water and a snack for the outing. This event is free and open to the public. Information and registration: stowelandtrust.org, 253-7221.
