Camels Hump view from Echo Woods Loop

The nonprofit Camels Hump Nordic Skiers Association has made several renovations and improvements to its 35-plus-kilometer trail network and amenities in Huntington.

Crow’s Foot Trail has been widened in some places, and drainage patterns on this and other south end trails have been improved for drier conditions and easier grooming. The traditional north end trails will be ungroomed and offer unparalleled views, quiet woods and deep snow.

A dog-friendly ski loop will start from Toothacher Swamp at Bert White Road, as it did last year, but will follow a new route. A 50-cent per paw ($2, usually) donation is requested for canine visitors.

Planned this season are a functioning electric heater in the hut and a port-a-potty at the Bert White Road parking area, and new kiosks with maps in several places across the trail network.

Suggested donations for using the trails are $10 per day, $75 per individual season or $125 for a family season. Skiers are asked to pay if they can. Information: camelshumpskiers.org.
