Scrag Mountain Music, the adventurous chamber music organization based in Warren, is almost four years old. The brainchild of double bassist Evan Premo and soprano Mary Bonhag, Scrag Mountain Music will launch a new season of concerts Friday to Sunday, Nov. 14 to 16. Their guest, returning for a second visit from their home in Chicago, is the renowned Spektral Quartet.

Scrag Mountain Music will perform on Friday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. at ArtsRiot, 400 Pine St., Burlington; Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Arts Center, 39 Main St., Montpelier; and on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. at the Warren United Church.

The program includes Steve Reich’s late-20th-century masterpiece “Different Trains” for string quartet and tape, music for soprano and string quartet by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov and British composer Harrison Birtwistle, and a quintet for string quartet plus double bass by 19th century Czech composer Antonin Dvorak.

Every program includes music that requires a double bass and a soprano which, by definition, makes every Scrag concert an unusual chamber music event.

Scrag Mountain Music’s dress code and ticket policy is “Come as you are. Pay what you can.”
