Stowe Performing Arts’ Noon Music in May concert series will begin Wednesday, May 6, from noon to 1 p.m. at Stowe Community Church.
Organist and composer John Weaver will perform music by “Masters of the 19th Century” — Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt and Francke. His wife, Marianne, an accomplished flutist, will join him in the Mendelssohn sonatas.
Weaver, a concert organist since 1959, has played throughout the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, the United Kingdom and Brazil. He was director of music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York for 35 years, head of the organ department at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia (1972-2003), and chair of the organ department at The Juilliard School (1987-2004). He now lives in Vermont and continues to perform and lead workshops and master classes around the world.
The concerts are free, but donations are appreciated.
This year’s Noon Music in May concerts are made possible by donations from Irene Bareau, Codeco Corp. of Vermont, and The Whip Bar & Grill, with additional support provided by Town and Country Resort at Stowe.
Next up on May 13 is “Three Sopranos: Sarah Cullins, Narda Muñoz, and Ana Maria Ruge,” who will sing arias by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Mozart as well as American opera arias. Performing with them will be pianist Annemieke McLane.
