Mad River Chorale

“I Hear America Singing” is the theme song for the Mad River Chorale’s spring concerts on Friday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Waitsfield United Church and Sunday, June 14, at 4 p.m. at Warren United Church.

Mary Bonhag, conductor of the community chorus, has put together a program of songs written by Americans — including some Vermonters; arranged by Americans, showcasing the poetry of Americans; and/or about America. The eclectic selection includes works by Stephen Foster, Aaron Copland, Pete Seeger, Robert Shaw, Alice Parker, Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman. Accompanist is pianist Mary Jane Austin of Montpelier.

The singers from 14 Central Vermont towns range from pre-teens to people in their 80s.

Tickets are available at the door; children 11 and under get in free. Advance tickets and information: 496-4781 (leave a message); madriverchorale.net.

Audience members are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Mad River Valley Food Shelf.
