Several spots in central Vermont are hosting an unusual art display: painted violins. Nine local artists donated their talents for the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra, which will auction these works of art this fall.
The violins (and one cello) came from people’s attics and storage shed. Most were destined for the dustbin, but now have a new life.
Five of the artists are from the Mad River Valley: Gary Eckhart, Dotty Kyle, Peggy Potter, Susie Gray and Linda Espinosa. The others are Lynn Spencer of Berlin, Sue Premore of Duxbury, Arthur Zorn of Montpelier and Marie LaPré Grabon from Hardwick.
The violins will be displayed at the Warren Public Library in September, at People’s United Bank in Waitsfield in October, and at Three Mountain Café in Waitsfield in November. They can also be seen at vermontphilharmonic.org, where there’s a link to the online auction. The auction will close in early December.
