An opening reception for the 34th annual Student Art Show at the Helen Day Art Center is Friday, May 1.

The reception runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Helen Day, located at 90 Pond St., Stowe. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday and by appointment.

The exhibit will continue through Sunday, May 31, celebrating the artistic talents of students at Stowe Elementary, Middle and High schools, along with students from Lamoille Union Middle and High schools.

At the reception:

• Free ice cream will be served from Stowe Ice Cream.

• People will be invited to participate in a preview of the art center’s summer art camps.

• People will be encouraged to discover the talents of local art students, and support their development.

The artwork includes a great variety of techniques and subjects. The students do their work under the guidance of art teachers Jen Volansky at Stowe Elementary, Trina Zide at Stowe Middle School, Kate Crouse and Carleen Zimbalatti at Stowe High School, Sabine Likhite and Jenna Kelly at Lamoille Union High School, and Tamara Sullivan at Lamoille Union Middle School.

The exhibition is made possible by The Art Store, Cafe on Main, McCarthy’s Restaurant, Stowe Ice Cream, Stowe Reporter, StoweToday.com and XPress Print, and grants from Vermont Arts Council and Art Works.
