Granter’s inspiration for the "Lotus Pond" show comes from the world of nature, from lush lotus blossoms and lily pads to playful turtles and koi fish, and an array of colorful aquatic life.

“Lotus Pond,” an exhibition of new work by Boston-based artist Ellen Granter, opens with a public reception on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Green Mountain Fine Art Gallery, 64 S. Main St., Stowe. The exhibit continues through Monday, Nov. 30.

Granter’s inspiration for this show comes from the world of nature, from lush lotus blossoms and lily pads to playful turtles and koi fish, and an array of colorful aquatic life. The artist treats her subjects with reverence, elevating them to new heights with luxurious hues and illuminating many of her oil paintings with a lavish application of gold leaf.

Granter says, “My paintings express my passion for my favorite subjects and my desire to create images that are beautiful and pure. For me, the point is not to create a souvenir of a place, or an accurate illustration, but rather to capture the barest essence and to create luminous, sparely composed paintings while still revealing emotional undercurrents.”

Granter’s work is shown in galleries throughout the U.S. and is held in many corporate and private collections. Her painting “Two and One” appeared on the cover of “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett.
