The opening reception for the 2014 Festival of Trees and Light, a celebration of the holiday season, and the annual Members’ Art Show and Sale, will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Helen Day Art Center on Pond and School Streets in Stowe. Local restaurants and others donate hors d’oeuvres for the buffet table, a variety of beverages will be served, and choraleers will entertain visitors.

The Festival of Trees and Light will feature 10 holiday trees decorated by Heartworks (formerly Stowe Co-operative Nursery), Helen Day Art Center’s Gala Tree, Laughing Moon Chocolates, Seldom Scene Interiors, Stowe Area Association, Stowe Education Fund, Stowe Free Library, Stowe Historical Association, Stowe Theatre Guild, and Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum, and a display of menorahs from members of the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected through Sunday, Dec. 28, under the annual Giving Tree for the Waterbury Food Shelf.

Over 100 local artists have contributed 185 pieces to the Members Art Show, and almost all of the artwork is for sale.

Family Day is Saturday, Dec. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. All are welcome for an afternoon of free creative holiday fun, which includes hands-on gingerbread house making and decorating and dreidel games.
