David Wolfgang

David Wolfgang says he likes to keep a low profile and work behind the scenes, but someone’s paying attention, because the owner of Pinnacle Ski and Sports on the Mountain Road has skied into first place in the Volunteer of the Year and Stowe Entrepreneur of the Year categories.

In addition, his Pinnacle shop took home Best ski/snowboard shop of the year, and second-best outdoor/sportswear shop.

Wolfgang was active in the Stowe Area Association for years, serving as president until 2016, and retiring from the board of directors last year.

He’s on the finance committee for the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe and gives money to a number of local groups behind the scenes, though he wouldn’t say which ones.

“This is my home, my family’s home, and I’m just happy to give back where I can,” he said. “When I started out in Stowe, I was just a ski bum. I was financially strapped until my wife told me to get off my (butt) and get a job.”

That’s when the Pinnacle shop started 34 years ago, and it’s been going strong since.
