Stowe 4, Mount Mansfield 3; Stowe 5, MMU 2 (doubleheader at home)
Squeezing in an earlier canceled match against the visiting school from the Underhill side of the mountain, the boys played single eight-point set matches in a doubleheader at the Stowehof. In the first match, Stowe and MMU were tied during Noah Mihan’s singles set, in which he came from behind to win game, set and match for Stowe. After winning the second match, Stowe finished the regular season 7-4, with its losses coming at the hands of the three best schools in the state, according to coach Jamie Watson. “We look forward to proving ourselves in the playoffs,” he said.

Division I individual tournament
The number-three seeded doubles team of Luke O’Toole and Calvin Dixon was a bright spot in a tournament otherwise marked by first-round exits for the Stowe squad. O’Toole and Dixon won the first round 7-6, 6-2, and the second round 7-6, 7-6. They lost in the semifinals to the same South Burlington doubles team, Ben Price and David Kunin, that had earlier eliminated another Stowe doubles team.

Team State Championships
Stowe fared better as a team in the first round of the state championships Tuesday, putting up a 7-0 against seventh-seeded Woodstock. Stowe entered the tournament as an eight-seed, attributable to the “challenging” division they played in all year, coach Jamie Watson said. The highest score Woodstock put up against the Raiders was a 3, in a 6-3 second set between Stowe’s Sam Salvas and Woodstock’s Nathan Fegard. Watson said the “definitive” win “proves us as one of the top teams to beat.”

Stowe’s top-ranked singles player, Casey O’Toole, had the best showing for the Lady Raiders at the individual tournament in Berlin, lasting through until the quarterfinals, where she lost to the state’s number-three seed, Jordan Walsh of Essex High School, 6-1, 6-3. “Both girls were constructing unbelievable points,” coach Josi Kytle said of the match. “Jordan was just a smidge more consistent.” Also advancing past the first round was Stowe’s doubles team of Catherine Miller and Meghan Driscoll, who lost in a third-set tie-break, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4, in what Kytle called “some of the best playing I had seen all season.”

Harry Colyer scored four goals for Stowe, and had a hat trick before the opposing team even found the net for the first time. Rice’s goalie, Jamie Cruchshank, stopped more than half of Stowe’s attempts on goal, saving 12.

Stowe 10, Harwood 3, at home
A heavy rainstorm shortened this game near the end of the third quarter, but the athletic directors from both schools agreed to call it an officially complete game. During that short time, Stowe’s Riley Levine netted a hat trick, while Chad Haggerty kept up his season-long habit of playing well with others, with four assists to go with his two goals. “I’m very pleased with our tempo of play on both ends of the field,” coach Mike Loughran said. “The kids are definitely pushing themselves more on the field and they are seeing the benefits of their efforts on the scoreboard.”
