Stowe Mountain Resort is holding a 5K Fun Run for adults and 3K run for kids on Saturday, Aug. 9, on the Spruce Peak community pathways to benefit the Barnes Camp boardwalk project.
Registration for the timed fun races will run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Alpine Club building at Spruce Peak. The $15 registration fee includes the race and an event tech T-shirt.
The race begins at 10 a.m. in the Spruce Plaza. All race participants should park over at Mt. Mansfield, and then take the Over Easy transfer gondola to Spruce Peak to get to the Alpine Club. For more information, call 802-253-3500.
The new Spruce Peak community pathways are trails for exercise, for walking pets, and for families to experience a journey through a northern forest. The sustainable trail system is available to people of all ages to enjoy quietly, at any time, in keeping with the environmental charter of Spruce Peak. The trailhead is just outside Stowe Mountain Lodge.
Barnes Camp, is located at the southern base of the Smugglers Notch, is a historic building and is a key piece of Vermont’s tourism and recreation history. Barnes Camp provided food and shelter for hikers and skiers and played an important role in Vermont’s ski industry. The current building dates from 1927.
