The 2014 Family Golf Scramble at Stowe Mountain Golf Club proved to be a great success, with a record turnout of 54 players.
On the warm Sunday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend, families gathered to play a nine-hole event with a few twists. The format of the event was a scramble: all players hit a tee shot, the best shot is selected, and all players play their second shot from the selected ball. Play continues as such until the ball is holed.
Players age 9 and under received two free shots per hole, and players ages 10 to 15 received one free shot. This format proved to be a fun and accessible way for families to enjoy their day on the golf course, and produce some amazingly low scores.
The Walker and Marhefka families won the event, shooting an amazing score of 5 (-30) on the front nine.
The winners in the adult division were Chris and Lynn Altadonna, along with Kerry Sedutto. This team shot a formidable 32 (-3) to wrap up their title. Following golf, a family barbecue was held at the golf cottage, where prizes were awarded.
