The Peoples Academy baseball team came one win away from making it to the Division III state championship, but fell short Tuesday in a one-run loss to undefeated BFA-Fairfax.
The fifth-seeded Wolves made it a close one, battling the top-seeded Bullets on the road in a low-scoring semifinal game, but ultimately fell 2-1.
Starting pitcher Kiley Moody took the loss for Peoples despite pitching six strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out five.
Alex Chapman scored the winning run for BFA-Fairfax, tripling in the fifth inning and later coming around to score.
Zac Roy got the win, allowing one run on three hits over five innings.
Peoples finished the regular season with a record of 11-5. The team topped Montpelier in the first round of the playoffs and beat Thetford in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis Tuesday.
BFA-Fairfax will face second-seeded Poultney in the D-III state championship Friday.
