Ron McConnell, fitness director at the Swimming Hole in Stowe, surpassed the 4,000-point mark — what he called “the Mount Everest of points in the pentathlon world” — to win the USA Track and Field East Regional Throwing Championships in Chelmsford, Mass., on July 12.
McConnell, 51, amassed a personal best of 4,109 points, which ranks first in the U.S. and second in the world this year for the five-event throws pentathlon, and came close to setting an American record for his age group.
