Amy Newhouse was born and raised in southern California and moved to Stowe with her (Stowe native) husband, Bart, in 2004 to raise their family. Spunky, honest and a bit of a hippie (not the pachouli kind), Amy is a wife, a daughter, a sister, a mother of two teenage boys, a hairdresser, a friend, a yoga instructor and a business owner. She has been the owner of Hot Yoga Stowe for several years and has very recently moved to the lower village and expanded her studio, now known as Yoga Movement & Wellness at Hot Yoga Stowe, to include several different styles of yoga and fitness classes — hot and not — on two levels. 1. What’s your favorite thing about working in Stowe?
I love the fact that I have such a great group of local yogis who come to class several times each week. I also love the constant turnover of visitors coming to the studio and that I have a very short commute to work.
2. What is your favorite season?
My favorite season is summer (minus the bugs) because I like it hot, like my yoga.
3. What are your favorite and least favorite things about your job?
Favorite: When a student comes up to me after class and tells me they had an “a-ha” moment with their practice because of a direction I gave in class that resonated with them.
Least favorite: The stress of paying the bills.
4. What qualities do you most appreciate in a friend?
5. What is a talent you have that almost nobody knows about?
6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would like the ability to fly.
7. Who has been the biggest influence on your life, and why?
My boys. They have taught me to love unconditionally, to be patient, to be accepting and to be more selfless.
8. You are going to be away for several months alone and can bring one book, one movie, one thing to eat and one album. What do you bring?
Album: “Rumors” by Fleetwood Mac. Movie: “A Knight’s Tale.” Food: peanut butter. Book: I’d bring my pillow over a book.
9. You’re having a dinner party. What three people, alive or not, real or imaginary, would you invite?
Stevie Nicks, Robert Downey Jr. and Jacqueline Kennedy.
10. If you were the ruler of the world, what two things would you do by decree?
No more politics and people could speak their minds without judgement.
Bonus: Do you have a favorite motto?
