Cats like Lulu and Max are a great household asset. They have their own mind, they use a litter box and a window cat door, and appreciate fellowship.
This mud season, spring fever makes our apartment too small for comfort.
Apartment No. 1 across the hall became a great attraction for Lulu. She fell in love with the couple that sublets until April — Wilawan, from Thailand, and Brian, from Connecticut. He works with a tour group; she caters Thai food dinners to home parties, and works at the ticket department on the mountain. They both love to ski.
Whenever they are home, Lulu sits at their door with her white-bootied paws tucked under her primly, and waits until the door opens, to luxuriate in their enticing possibilities, like a couch, and a TV to watch.
Meanwhile, Max sleeps all day in the bathroom closet hideaway, in total oblivion to what he is missing, partly due to being very shy. He dreams of all the mice to be caught soon, brought in, or devoured on the spot.
Life is exciting for all of us. Wilawan and Brian will be missed all summer, but they plan to return in the fall to Stowe to our welcome, especially Lulu’s.
