We were very pleased to see the Stowe Free Library-sponsored summer program featuring Dinoman received such publicity in the last issue of the Stowe Reporter. This program was a free and open-to-the-public activity, which the Stowe Summer Recreation participants and other community members attended.
Each year, librarians across the country develop a themed summer reading program designed to fight the “summer slide.” Experts believe that children who read through the summer can gain reading skills, while those that do not read are at risk of losing these hard-earned skills.
This year’s theme for the national summer reading campaign is science-based. “Fizz! Boom! Read!” reaches out to the younger children, while “Spark a Reaction” is geared to the older children.
The Stowe Free Library, through the diligent work of our children’s librarian, Julie Pickett, has already offered a Lamoille County Nature Center program, an Exordium Science Program, a Wildthings Nature Program, a Vermont Energy Education Program, two sessions of Robot Crafts, and, of course, Dinoman. These programs were all free and open to the public.
It’s not too late to take part in the remaining summer programs. Come in on July 31, Aug. 7 and/or Aug. 14 for Lego Club. Attend Storytimes for 2- and 3-year-olds on Mondays, Baby and Toddler Storytime on Fridays, and Preschool Music Program on the first Monday of the month.
The Stowe Free Library’s mission is “To Welcome … To Inspire … To Enrich the Mind.” We value the Stowe community and take our role in promoting literacy, the love of reading, and lifelong learning very seriously. Visit us and witness our passion!
