Shhh! Call me a killjoy, but what’s with the fireworks? A bit of a cliché, I say. Every weekend, and now midweek as well.

We have the unfortunate situation of living just off the Mountain Road within hearing distance of three major resorts, each of which fires off round after round most summer and fall weekends. And last night (Wednesday), the house actually shook during the 15 minutes of what sounded like shelling.
My heart goes out to the domestic animals cowering under beds, wild animals terrified in the woods, not to mention any battle-fatigued vets suffering from PTSD. Our adolescent ducks on the pond went nuts last night. And the environmental impact?
I say yeah on the Fourth of July, and perhaps for large New Year’s parties. But why do the brides and grooms of today feel they have to seal their vows by blasting the eardrums of anyone within miles of their celebration?
