Rescue teams got an injured hiker off the Long Trail Saturday afternoon.
The woman, 29, injured her ankle on the Long Trail north out of Smugglers Notch, the former Elephant Head Trail.
She was at an altitude of about 3,000 feet and 1.7 miles from the Route 108 parking lot.
Stowe Mountain Rescue officials said the woman was well prepared and equipped, but her injured ankle and the technical nature of the trail made it impossible for her to get off the mountain herself.
When she contacted emergency officials, a team of two was assigned to find the woman and immobilize her injury while the balance of the team brought in the equipment needed to get her to safety.
The hiker’s ankle was stabilized, intravenous treatment was begun, and the woman was evacuated by litter and wheel. The terrain required multiple rope system raises and lowers.
Assistance was provided by Colchester Technical Rescue and Essex Back-Country Rescue.
The rescue was completed at 5:45 p.m.
