Stowe Mountain Rescue came to the rescue of an exhausted hiker atop Mount Mansfield on Wednesday, June 4.
Four hikers left Underhill State Park and hiked up the Laura Cowels Trail to the Chin of Mount Mansfield. At the summit, one of the hikers was extremely fatigued and felt unable to hike down the Sunset Ridge Trail to Underhill State Park before darkness fell.
Lamoille County Dispatch called in Stowe Mountain Rescue, which was able to talk to the hikers by cellphone and direct them to head north on the Long Trail to the summit station at the top of the Toll Road up the mountain.
From there, a Stowe Mountain Rescue truck took the four hikers to the Stowe Fire Department, where a parent picked up the hikers and drove them to Underhill State Park to retrieve their car.
