The Vermont Agency of Transportation is conducting a “subsurface investigation” by the Mountain Road bridge spanning the Little River near the village intersection, which will occasionally limit traffic over the bridge to one lane. The work is being done ahead of a complete overhaul of the bridge slated for the spring of 2015. The investigation involves VTrans engineers taking core soil samples to determine the structural stability of the ground. Stowe Public Works Director Harry Shepard said the soil tests should be done by mid-day Friday.
