The Lamoille County Conservation District is working to control water runoff and pollution in Hyde Park.
Overall, the district is aiming to decrease stormwater flows and improve water quality for landowners throughout Lamoille County.
Through use of such things as rain gardens, water-retention areas and swales, the organization believes it can reduce pollution from stormwater runoff that eventually works its way into lakes, rivers and streams.
Working with the Hyde Park town government and several private landowners, and using design plans from Watershed Consulting Inc., the conservation district will restore an eroding gully and install a series of water-retention areas to capture runoff from roads — and the salt, sand and oil that washes off the roads. The water will be naturally stored and filtered before it into nearby Centerville Brook.
The work is funded by a grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation’s ecosystem restoration program.
