Stowe will celebrate a sidewalk project by holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Nov. 29, at noon at Cape Cod and Mountain roads, adjacent to Mountain Associates Realtors.
Officials and merchants will recognize completion of the first phase of the Mountain Road Village sidewalk project, and the public is welcome to attend.
Last March, Stowe voters approved $340,000 for this first phase, installing a sidewalk from Cape Cod Road to the Gale Farm Center.
There’s now a safe, continuous sidewalk from Stowe village to the Mountain Road Village. The project also helps fulfill the Stowe Town Plan’s goal to improve pedestrian safety and create walkable villages.
The Town Plan defines the Mountain Road Village as a local growth center, meant to support residential and business development on a village scale.
The sidewalk project was designed by Grenier Engineering of Waterbury, constructed by H.A. Manosh of Morrisville and overseen by the Stowe Public Works Department. Property owners and businesses along Mountain Road cooperated in providing the easements needed to install the sidewalk, and put up with disruption caused by the construction.
The concept was developed more than 10 years ago, and “we are very excited to see the sidewalk become a reality,” said Chuck Baraw, whose family operates the Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa, adjacent to the new sidewalk. “The sidewalk helps to create a true village feeling in the Mountain Road Village District, where you can find the largest concentration of shops, restaurants and activities in the town of Stowe.”
“We are all very happy … The sidewalk will really add to the outdoor experience of our visitors and allow them to easily and safely walk between the many shops, restaurants and activities that we have to offer in our district,” said Rachel Vandenberg, a member of the Mountain Road Marketplace.
