Each week, Young Writers Project receives several hundred submissions from students in Vermont and New Hampshire in response to writing prompts, and the best are selected for publication here and in 21 other newspapers and on vpr.net. Read more writing at youngwritersproject.org.
This week’s prompt was general writing (poetry).
Grade 9, Stowe High School
I used to run too fast to belong to anyone
Since the day I saw your eyes my life has begun
Even though I may not always win
It is you who makes me feel I could do no sin
Without you is a waste of time
The words I speak would have no rhyme
If it is forever then I shall always try
No matter I will hold you when you cry
There is no suffering when you hold me
I feel as though sadness in the world will no longer be
And if there comes a day we part ways
Then I will smile when I remember the days
It is so hard to portray love and all the magic it contains
It is as though when you are with them there could never be pain
But once it comes you can never throw it away
Love never runs, for it always stays
