The Vermont Philharmonic will celebrate Vermont musical talent in a pair of concerts entitled “Stars of Winter,” featuring a gifted young pianist and a celebrated trio. The shows are on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael’s College and Sunday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Barre Opera House, with conductor and music director Lou Kosma.
Laura Zhou-Hackett, who won the 2023 Jon Borowicz Memorial Scholarship Competition, will perform the lyrical Andante from Felix Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in G minor, op.25.
The second half of the concert is devoted to Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano, Opus 56 — the so-called “Triple Concerto” — performed by the Vermont Philharmonic and the world-class Champlain Trio.
The program opens with Aaron’s Copland’s colorful “Outdoor Overture,” followed by Richard Strauss’ “Serenade for Winds.”
Now in its 64th season, the Vermont Philharmonic is Vermont’s oldest community orchestra. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at bit.ly/3kiAY28.
