“Wisdom from the Spirit,” 1 Corinthians 2:6-16: Reading the Bible without the interpreting power of the Holy Spirit would be simply an academic exercise. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
But those who are the children of God receive the revelation, inspiration and illumination of truth from the Holy Spirit. Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. God’s spirit brings the word alive in a believer’s heart.
For instance, you can know a scripture and have read it for years, then one day you suddenly have a new and profound understanding — that’s a revelation brought about by God’s spirit. It is beyond our ability in the flesh to comprehend, for it is supernatural.
Our God is supernatural. He is the Creator God. Who spoke and it came into being. He holds all things together in the universe, yet knows the number of hairs on our head and calls us by name. He created the angels who watch over us. He delights to show himself strong on behalf of those who love and trust in him. He loves each one with an everlasting love we cannot fathom.
In verse 16 of this chapter is an amazing statement: “But we have the mind of Christ, through his holy spirit. We stand in awe.”
