The Phoenix, a national nonprofit organization fostering community support for people in recovery from a substance use disorder, is expanding its Phoenix Rising Program in Hyde Park.

Weekly CrossFit classes will start on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to noon at Green Mountain CrossFit, 576 E. Main St., Hyde Park.

“If the opposite of addiction is connection, rather than simply sobriety, then this is another empowering venue for people to connect with other people, especially others in recovery who will support and encourage them in their journey to better health, in their recovery processes, and in their lives,” said Daniel Franklin, executive director of the North Central Vermont Recovery Center in Morrisville. The center is a partner in The Phoenix expansion to Hyde Park.

The Phoenix arrived in Vermont in December. The expansion is a result of overwhelmingly positive responses to classes held at Green Mountain CrossFit-Central in Berlin.

Founded in 2006, The Phoenix has served over 26,000 people in recovery across the country and currently operates in 18 locations across 13 states. Activities offered by The Phoenix include climbing, hiking, running, CrossFit, yoga, surfing and cycling. The Phoenix provides these programs free of charge to anyone at least 48 hours sober who agrees to the organization’s code of conduct that ensures all members have a safe and supportive environment.
