Mary Q. Dimick, 81, formerly of Waterbury and a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014. Born in Waterbury on Nov. 11, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Freda Mae (Boyce) Quinn. In 1964 she married Malcolm Dimick in Montpelier. Malcolm died in 1984.

Mary was a 1950 graduate of Waterbury High School and continued her education, graduating from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. Mary began her nursing career at the Boston State Hospital and, following her marriage, returned to her roots here in Vermont. Continuing as a nurse, Mary worked for over 23 years at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, from which she retired.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed knitting, puzzles, camping, trips to the ocean and country and western music. Following her retirement, Mary especially loved caring for her two grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Robin Percy and her husband Peter of Stowe; her two grandchildren, Kacey Rae Percy and Alex Elton Percy, both of Stowe; her longtime partner, Alma Baughman of Hyde Park; a sister, Maureen Leno and her husband Sterry of Calais; her brother, John Quinn and his wife June of Hardwick; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Tuesday, May 27, at 10 a.m. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495.
