Joyce E. Lang, 91, formerly of Stowe and most recently of Springfield, Vt., died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, surrounded by loved ones.

Joyce E. Lang, 91, formerly of Stowe and most recently of Springfield, Vt., died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Stowe July 5, 1924, daughter of Jerome and Effie (Shepard) Wilkins, graduated from Stowe High School in 1942 and attended nursing training at the Wellesley Children’s Hospital in Boston.

On Jan. 22, 1944, she married Carroll Lang in Stowe. Mr. Lang died Feb. 18, 1984.

She raised her family on the Lang family’s Goldbrook Farm.

Joyce was a lifelong member of Stowe Community Church. She belonged to several local organizations, including the Ladies Aid and the Order of Eastern Star. She took great pride in sharing her beautiful voice; she was part of a trio from Stowe that sang on the radio and at many events.

Survivors include her children, Claudia Rabe and husband Heinz of Germany, Lorelei Frohman and husband Mark of Waterbury Center, Stephen Lang and wife Debbe of Albuquerque, N.M., Joy Benson and husband Tim of Springfield, Vt., Mark Lang of Stowe, Carroll Lang Jr. of Moscow, Vt., Patrick W. Lang and Betty Cenicola of Westwood, N.J., and Meghan Lang and husband Douglas Proulx of Stowe; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her beloved “little man” Shadow, and many lifelong friends.

Four brothers and two sisters died earlier.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Stowe Community Church, 137 Main St. Burial will be at a later date.
